Post-Delegation Newsletter: October 2024

We are excited to share the successful completion of our October 2024 delegation! Over the past three weeks, our team worked closely with local partners to achieve significant milestones, advancing our mission to improve water access and sustainability in rural Tanzania. Here’s a recap of our impact and activities throughout the delegation.

Key Achievements

Water System Installation: Our team installed a 55,000-liter rainwater harvesting and filtration system at Mbulungu Primary School, now providing a reliable water source for nearly 500 students. With an annual collection capacity of 118,000 liters, this system ensures clean water access, particularly during the water-scarce dry season. This installation marks the second generation of our filtration solution, enabling the use of previously contaminated water and representing a significant step forward in our water solution capabilities.

Monitoring of Existing Systems: We inspected and assessed all 11 of our existing water systems to ensure their continued effectiveness. The delegation performed water quality checks and system evaluations, maintaining and promoting water accessibility for the communities relying on these systems. The valuable data collected during this process allowed us to fine-tune our maintenance protocols.

Educational Initiatives: Our delegation expanded educational efforts to promote sustainability, achieving a 20% increase in participation among students and teachers. New programs have engaged communities in understanding and maintaining water systems, and a special seminar for school principals emphasized long-term system care, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability across both new and established communities. Additionally, we conducted 20 hands-on technical workshops for the school community and students, equipping them with a thorough understanding of the system’s operation and maintenance to ensure its longevity.

Field Tours and Future Expansion: In collaboration with  RUWASA, STC, and CCA, our team conducted three field tours, marking the final step of a three-year research project in the Babati District. This project mapped the water needs of local communities across different areas, laying a solid foundation for our upcoming expansion.

Strengthening Partnerships: Through newly signed MOUs, numerous meetings with local leaders, district officials, RUWASA representatives, and other NGOs, we strengthened collaboration with the local community and solidified our plans for future expansion into additional areas.

Looking Ahead

This delegation marks another significant step forward in our vision for sustainable water access in Tanzania. We are deeply grateful to our partners and the local communities for their ongoing support and collaboration.

We conclude this delegation with great anticipation for the future. We are excited to build upon the experience and insights gained through this work, applying them in the coming months as we prepare for our next delegation.
